A Morning at IESEG: When AI Helps Master 1 Digital Marketing Students Revise

A look back at a morning at IESEG with 95 Master 1 Digital Marketing students: 120 questions asked to the avatar, 65 cumulative hours spent on the platform in a single morning, and 93.5% positive feedback.

A Morning at IESEG: When AI Helps Master 1 Digital Marketing Students Revise

As a co-founder of Complement, I am always enthusiastic to see our tool come to life in the hands of users. Last week, I was able to go on-site for the launch of a revision module at the IESEG School of Management with students from the Master 1 Digital Marketing program.

The adventure began with Lana Mulier, a marketing professor eager to offer an interactive revision experience to her 95 students for her Digital Content course. She prepared a revision module on our platform by selecting key slides from her course materials, then transforming her PowerPoint into interactive content with quizzes and exchanges via a conversational AI avatar. It took her less than two hours to put a complete, polished, and focused revision module online, centered on the concepts to be mastered for the exam.

On the big day, I went to the lecture hall to support the students during their final morning of class. After a brief presentation of Complement and the experiment, the students connected to the platform. What was initially planned as a simple revision session while waiting for group project presentations turned into a true immersion in our tool for the students. They found themselves answering questions and oral scenarios, explaining different concepts covered in class, and re-listening to explanations and definitions provided by the AI avatar.

Rich and insightful feedback

What made this morning so special was seeing the students get fully engaged. Our dashboard literally exploded with:

  • 120 questions asked directly to the avatar, particularly regarding misunderstood course concepts and “curiosity” questions related to the course material.
  • 65 cumulative hours spent on the platform in a single morning.
  • 94 suggestions for improvement, which have already given birth to 15 “stories” in our 2025 roadmap.
  • 367 responses to the 4 open-ended questions: “Give your opinion on the module and the solution.”

But beyond the numbers, it was the students' words that touched me the most. They were able to give their feedback on the solution to the avatar on Complement, and many came to see me directly to tell me what it had brought them by the end of the morning.

Their words, our motivation

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: 93.5% of students expressed a positive appraisal of the experience, and there were no negative reviews. When asked if they would be able to follow a complete course on our application, 71.4% answered “Yes.”

But it was the detailed comments that resonated the most. One student shared: “I really like this interactive format because it 'forces' us to stay focused on the course. Also, it doesn't feel like being in class, but rather in a discussion about current topics, which is great for learning.” Another highlighted: “I much prefer this format [to videos] because the personalization of the avatar allows me to shape it in a way that helps me succeed in following the course best; we have open-ended questions to reflect on for better revision, for which we get corrections and can ask questions.

What stood out was the interactive and personalized aspect of our solution. Students appreciated being able to ask questions, get instant answers, and feel that the avatar was adapting to their needs. As one student put it so well: “It’s surprisingly almost more natural than a video.

We also saw them all choose an avatar from the 4 available, pick a personality that suited their needs, and adjust the voice speed—generally to 1.5x or 2x. Another notable point is that they kept the menu open on the application, which contains the conversation transcript, so they could re-read what had just been said when they drifted off for a few seconds.

What's next?

At the end of this morning, students still had access to the platform, and many finished the revision module afterward. This experiment was a real success, both for the students who arrived “better equipped” for the exam and for the professor who was looking for a “fun” and easy-to-implement way to refresh their memory. We are now discussing with other teachers in the marketing program to implement the solution on a permanent basis for other subjects starting this September.

I left this morning at IESEG with the feeling that Complement provides real added value to users, whether for flipped classrooms, revisions, or a 100% online course. Hearing an international student who was struggling tell me, "Thank you so much for what you are doing, can we have revision modules in other subjects before the exams?" is an invaluable reward. It reminds me why we created Complement: to make e-learning more interactive, more personalized, and, above all, more human.
