Public prices as observed in July 2026, subject to change — check the vendor's website. With Genially, SCORM export (SCORM 1.2) is reserved for the highest tiers; the price in euros may differ from the price in dollars. The creation time on the Complement side is an estimate that varies with complexity.
Creation & speed
Genially is a visual creation studio: you compose animated scenes, add interactive zones, effects and gamification. The "AI Builder" can generate a first version from a prompt or a document, but most of the work remains manual design — that's where its value lies.
Complement doesn't set out to do visual design: it turns your PowerPoint or PDF into a conversational module in ~1h30 (based on our measurements). The AI structures the content, creates the dialogue and the assessment. Two different logics: composing a rich visual on one side, generating a learning path on the other.
Engagement & pedagogy
Genially engages through the visual: animations, interactivity, games. It's very effective at capturing attention and illustrating, but the learner stays in one-way consumption, without any real dialogue or formal assessment of what they have understood.
Complement engages through conversation: the learner exchanges with an AI avatar, makes their case, and is assessed orally. The analytics show the level of mastery and the sticking points, for continuous improvement of the module.
Integrations & standards
Genially offers LTI 1.3 integration and SCORM export — but only in SCORM 1.2 and only on its highest tiers. If publishing to an LMS via SCORM is a requirement, be sure to check which plan you need. Genially is a European vendor and states it is GDPR-compliant.
Complement exports to SCORM and integrates via LTI 1.3 from the start, or can be used as a platform, with hosting in France (GDPR).
Pricing & model
Genially has a genuine advantage: a generous free plan, then paid tiers from around $15/month (July 2026; the price in euros may differ). Be careful, though: SCORM export is reserved for the higher tiers, which changes the equation if you need to distribute through an LMS.
Complement bills by usage (€5/hr/learner) or by learner licence (€6/learner/month annually), with a designer licence at €39/month and SCORM/LTI export included. See our pricing.
When to choose Genially over Complement
Genially is the better choice when the visual comes first.
- You create animated presentations, infographics, interactive images or gamified materials.
- You want fine-grained manual creative control over design and animation.
- You're on a tight budget and the free plan is enough for your needs.
- Your context is more communication or illustrated teaching, with no need for formal assessment or SCORM publishing.
When Complement is the better choice
- You want a structured training path with dialogue and oral assessment.
- You start from existing material and want to transform it fast (~1h30).
- You need analytics to measure mastery and improve your modules.
- You need to export to SCORM / LTI 1.3 without going through a top-tier plan, with hosting in France.
Frequently asked questions
Is Genially an e-learning authoring tool?
Genially is first and foremost a tool for creating visual, interactive content (animated presentations, clickable images, infographics, gamification). You can use it to build learning materials, but it isn't a full authoring suite geared towards structured learning paths and assessment the way Complement, Storyline or iSpring are.
Is Genially free?
Yes, Genially offers a genuine free (freemium) plan, with no credit card required and plenty of templates. Some features are reserved for paid plans — notably SCORM export (SCORM 1.2), available only on the higher tiers. Prices observed in July 2026, to be confirmed with the vendor.
Does Genially offer an AI avatar or oral assessment?
Genially has an "AI Builder" that generates a first version of a piece of content from a prompt or a document. But to the best of our knowledge, as of July 2026, it does not offer a conversational AI avatar that talks with the learner, nor oral assessment — two features native to Complement.
Genially or Complement for training?
Genially is ideal for striking, gamified, interactive visual materials. Complement is designed for structured training modules where the learner talks with an AI and is assessed orally, with analytics and SCORM export without needing a top-tier plan. The choice depends on whether your priority is interactive design or measured conversational learning.
